How to Install a PC Repack
Installing a repack isn't complicated — but there are a few steps people consistently skip and then wonder why it doesn't work.
Read this once. It'll save you a lot of frustration.
Before you start
Get 7-Zip
Almost every repack comes in a compressed archive. You need 7-Zip to extract it.
Download it from 7-zip.org — it's free, it's the standard, and there's no reason to use anything else.
Install the redistributables
Most games need Visual C++ Redistributables and DirectX to run. If you don't have them, the game will crash immediately — often with no useful error message.
Install both x64 and x86 versions from the Redistributables page before doing anything else.
Sort out your antivirus
Antivirus software will frequently flag repack files as suspicious. This is a false positive caused by heuristic detection — the file looks unusual because it's been compressed and modified.
Before extracting, add the destination folder as an exclusion in your antivirus:
Windows Defender:
- Open Windows Security
- Virus & threat protection → Manage settings
- Exclusions → Add an exclusion → Folder
- Select the folder where you'll extract the game
Other antivirus software: Look for "Exclusions" or "Whitelist" in settings. The process is similar.
Setup vs Pre-installed
There are two types of PC repacks on this site:
Setup
Comes with an installer. You run it, choose your install options (language, components), and it installs the game like any normal program.
When to use this: When you want to choose what gets installed — language packs, extras, specific components.
Pre-installed
Already extracted and ready to run. No installer — just extract and launch.
When to use this: When you want the fastest path to playing. Just extract to wherever you keep games and run the executable.
Installing a Setup repack
-
Extract the archive Right-click the downloaded file → 7-Zip → Extract to
[folder name]\If the download came in multiple parts (
.part01.rar,.part02.rar, etc.) — only extract the first part. 7-Zip handles the rest automatically. -
Run the installer Open the extracted folder and run the setup file. It'll usually be named
setup.exe,install.exe, or something similar. -
Choose your options Selective download repacks let you pick languages and components. Only install what you actually need — this keeps the install size smaller.
-
Wait for installation Repack installers decompress files as they install. This takes longer than a normal installer. Don't close it.
-
Check the Repack Notes After installing, check the game page's Repack Notes section. Some games need an extra step — a crack applied, a specific file moved, or a runtime installed.
-
Run the game Launch from the desktop shortcut or directly from the install folder.
Installing a Pre-installed repack
-
Extract the archive Right-click → 7-Zip → Extract to
[folder name]\ -
Move it somewhere sensible Don't run games from your Desktop, Downloads folder, or inside
Program Files. These are protected locations that can cause permission errors.Put it somewhere like
C:\Games\orD:\Games\. -
Check the Repack Notes Same as above — check the game page for any extra steps.
-
Run the executable Open the extracted folder and find the game's
.exefile. Run it directly — not through Steam or any launcher unless specified.
Common problems
The game crashes immediately with no error
Missing redistributables. Install Visual C++ (x64 + x86) and DirectX from the Redistributables page.
A DLL file is missing
Same cause — missing runtime. Check the Common Errors page for which specific DLL maps to which package.
The installer asks for a password
You downloaded from the wrong place. Repacks from this site don't require passwords.
Extraction fails or says the archive is damaged
The download is incomplete or corrupted. Re-download. If it keeps happening, try a different mirror.
Windows Defender deleted a file
Check Defender's Protection History and restore the quarantined file. Then add the game folder as an exclusion before running again.
"Access is denied" error
You're running the game from a protected folder. Move it to C:\Games\ or similar.
Final notes
- Never update a cracked game through Steam or an official launcher — it will overwrite the crack with the original executable
- If a game worked before and suddenly doesn't, something changed — usually a Windows update or antivirus scan
- The Repack Notes on each game page are there for a reason. Read them.
